Developing School AI Policy: Leadership, Ethics and Implementation

Developing School AI Policy: Leadership, Ethics and Implementation

Developing School AI Policy: Leadership, Ethics and Implementation

This session is designed for post-primary school leaders seeking to respond thoughtfully and effectively to the rapid emergence of artificial intelligence in teaching and learning.

Focusing on the Irish educational context, the workshop explores how school leaders can navigate both the challenges and opportunities presented by AI integration in the classroom, while maintaining a clear commitment to ethical practice, educational integrity and student wellbeing.

Drawing on current research, international approaches and school-based realities, the session will support leaders in:·

  • understanding the implications of AI for teaching, assessment and learning
  • identifying key ethical, pedagogical and governance considerations
  • moving from uncertainty or inconsistency towards coherent, whole-school policy

A core element of the session is the provision of practical resources and policy templates , designed to support schools in developing or refining AI policies that are context-sensitive, values-led and workable in everyday classroom practice.

Participants will leave with increased confidence, concrete tools, and a clearer framework for leading informed, strategic and ethically grounded AI integration within their school communities.
