 EPV Approved - Special Educational Needs - A Toolkit - Summer 2026

A highly practical course intended to help the Special Education Teacher or mainstream class teacher teach and plan for children with additional needs. Over the course of the week, we will look at the continuum of support, use assessments to identify priority needs, examine the psychologist's report to help us use the information to set targets, look at an overview of additional needs with possible differentiation techniques to help, and plan the student support plan. 

The course is suitable for Special Education Teachers and for any teacher who has a child with an additional need in their class.

Content includes an overview of

• Various Special Educational Needs
• the continuum of support
• diagnostic testing
• understanding the psychologist's report
• communication needs in the classroom
• sensory needs and behaviour as a form of communication
• specific learning difficulties in literacy and numeracy
• using ICT as a learning tool for children with additional needs.

Upon completion of this course, Teachers will be equipped with the knowledge and the confidence to apply in their classroom what they have learned in this course and will be provided with "A Took Kit of Resources"  to take with them to further their knowledge and expertise in the area of Special Educational Needs.

Summer Course Booking Policy

Our summer courses are booked on the condition that the course fee is non-refundable.

Wexford Education Support Centre reserves the right to cancel a Summer Course where there are not sufficient numbers to run the course. A full refund will be offered if this happens or you may also choose to reserve a place on an alternative course. 

Please note: Participants attending Summer Courses receive the following number of EPV days:  

• Full Attendance (20 Hours): 3 EPV Days
• 4 Days Attendance (16 Hours): 2 EPV Days 
• No EPV days will be awarded for less than 4 days attendance
• Please note: Closing Date for Registration is Friday 19th June 2026
