EPV Approved - School Leadership - Summer Course

Summary:
The aims of this course are:
- Enhancement of teacher knowledge
- Understanding of leadership theory
- Application of Theory to Practice
- Development of links with national priorities such as School Self-Evaluation
- Reflection on the principles underpinning Cosán, the National Framework for teachers’ learning, and the standards therein
Learning Outcomes:
Individual or collective practice in relation to teaching, learning and assessment skills
Through identification and exploration of links and connections between course content and their previous experience and present situation
Through talk, discussion and reflection with colleagues Through the study of theory and relevant literature
Through a close analysis of the role of the school leader in promoting teaching and learning
Promotion of inclusive/differentiated approaches and effective teaching methodologies?
Developing awareness of the situated nature of leadership, teaching and learning – will be one of the key themes of this course.
Through a study and exploration of different models of inclusion and inclusive leadership
SSE process and how it will be used to help teachers make changes to improve the learning outcomes and experiences of learners
- Through an emphasis on a ‘process model’ of evaluation
- Through a detailed exploration of the concepts of ‘data’ and ‘evidence’
- By learning about different methods of collecting, organising and interpreting data relevant to school settings
- Through the explicit study of the SSE Guidelines for Primary Schools and of the role of school leadership in implementing them
The promotion of Digital Technologies in schools
- Regularly focusing and discussing the Digital Strategy
- Exploring ways in which digital technology can be used to gather information and communicate key messages to all school stakeholders
- By exploring digital education and digital citizenship as a site for school leadership to express itself
Reflection on the principles underpinning Cosán, the National Framework for teachers’ learning, and the standards therein
- Highlighting opportunities for agency and autonomy in school leadership
- Focusing on the school leader as a leader of learning
- Providing rich and varied learning opportunities for teachers By valuing the learning of the leader
Dates: Wednesday 1st July - Tuesday 7th July
Times: 9.30 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. (daily)

Lunch: A light lunch will be provided daily at 11.30 a.m.

Summer Course Booking Policy
Our summer courses are booked on the condition that the course fee is non-refundable.
Wexford Education Support Centre reserves the right to cancel a Summer Course where there are not sufficient numbers to run the course. A full refund will be offered if this happens or you may also choose to reserve a place on an alternative course.
Please note: Participants attending Summer Courses receive the following number of EPV days:
- Full Attendance (20 Hours): 3 EPV Days
- 4 Days Attendance (16 Hours): 2 EPV Days
- No EPV days will be awarded for less than 4 days attendance
- Please note: Closing Date for Registration is Friday 19th June 2026
