Looking for programmes to engage students in the coming school year?
Particularly interested in sustainable development?

We would like to recommend two of ECO-UNESCO’s programmes designed to support young people and educators in 2021/2022 and would be delighted if you could distribute this information to those you think would benefit.

These programmes engage learners in their local natural and human environments, link to the school curriculum, foster teamwork, and develop the knowledge, confidence, empathy, and active citizenship skills of young people.  They are particularly relevant for:

  • Junior Cycle:  Well-being, CSPE, Geography, Science

  • Transition Year: TY projects and Career Guidance

  • Senior Cycle: Geography, Home Economics, Politics in Society; LCVA; some LCVP and QQI courses

Free to enter and adapted for online learning

With environmental issues at the forefront of today’s agenda, this is the perfect time to get young people involved in saving the environment. The Young Environmentalist Awards (YEA) is the biggest Eco-Action programme in Ireland which recognises and rewards young people who take practical steps to improve their local environment.

We’re calling on young people aged 10-18 years old and their mentors to get together and come up with innovative solutions to an environmental issue of their choice.  Their project can then be entered into the YEA 2022 where young people will be rewarded for their hard work.  This is a fun, interactive, year-long programme that can easily be carried out across youth groups, schools, classrooms, or groups of friends.

Registration opens 6th September www.yea.ie

See the final showcase of last year’s Young Environmentalist awards HERE, featuring special guests Mary Robinson and Michael D. Higgins!

We also offer a range of interactive, fact-based environmental workshops for post-primary students of all age-groups (12-18) which are available for delivery using flexible delivery options (either in-person, live online or pre-recorded options) which will suit their timetable. These workshops are perfect for any school interested in helping their students learn about environmental issues in a fun, energising way which empowers them with the knowledge to take positive climate action.

Workshops are available throughout the year. We are also happy to work with teachers and youth workers to tailor these workshops to their specific desired learning outcomes. These highly sought-after workshops book up quickly, so we advise teachers and youth workers to book their place as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

We have adapted our programmes so that young people, teachers and youth workers have the flexibility to engage online or in person, ensuring learning outcomes can be met as COVID guidelines continue to change.

Contact us today and support the development of young people as they take action to protect and conserve their environment.
