The importance of play in the infant years is widely researched and acknowledged as a vital component of early learning. However facilitating this alongside an overloaded curriculum can be challenging. This course will explore how to manage a playful approach to teaching and learning while ensuring the infant curriculum is covered and focus on how to set up, resource and plan for play in the infant classroom.

Learning Outcomes

  • Acknowledge the importance of Play in a child’s learning development.
  • Identify how a playful approach can enhance literacy and numeracy development.
  • List different types of playful approaches and how to set up and resource your classroom to support these.
  • Explore how using an integrated topic-based approach will help alleviate the challenge of curriculum overload
