This course is suitable for teachers who are interested in addressing the foundations of learning using Neuro Developmental Therapies. As these therapies provide the first steps in literacy and numeracy, they greatly enhance a child’s opportunity to reach their potential.
Underpinning the Neuro Developmental work is the theory that children need to develop physical tools for learning readiness. They need balance and co-ordination for focusing and writing, eye control for tracking and reading as well as adequate listening skills to succeed in the school environment.
Any gap in early development may hinder physical, cognitive, social or emotional progress. The main premise of this work is that early childhood stages can be replicated to give the brain a ‘second chance’ to develop through gentle strategies.
The course incorporates training in how to assess for neuro-motor delay and implement a programme of movements to address these challenges. It also provides detailed information on auditory processing difficulties and Johansen sound therapy. Some information is offered on Bilateral integration therapy also.
Judy Breen and Aoife Caulfield are both teachers and therapists. They run a private clinic in Ennis centre offering INPP Movement Therapy, Johansen Sound Therapy and Literary and Numeracy Tuition. They also provide teacher training in Education Centres throughout Ireland for class based interventions
