Ethical Discipline in Schools

This webinar will consider Codes of Behaviour from an ethical perspective. Issues to be addressed include the principle of punishment and sanction, school practices, the place of process and authority, and the effectiveness of discipline in school settings. The balance of reward and sanction will be reviewed and a number of alternative approaches will be highlighted.

Participants in this course will be enabled to

(1) understand some of the ethical dimensions of Codes of Behaviour;

(2) position ethical discipline in the context of teacher-pupil relationships;

(3) learn about alternative approaches to managing behaviour in school settings.
