Running Maths Stations in your Classroom
Station teaching is a wonderful methodology to implement for maths at every class level as it is makes teaching and learning interactive and enjoyable in small-group settings. The course aims to show teachers how they can practically implement maths stations into their classroom. It will detail the structure and logistics of successfully running maths stations in your classroom. It will also examine the benefits and challenges of station teaching. It will provide teachers with a range of ideas, resources, material and activities for each station at all class levels which complement the new primary mathematics curriculum.
Learning Outcomes
- Explore different math activities to develop children's understanding of different concepts.
- Examine the range of ways children can play with and use concrete materials.
- Discover the practicalities of implementing station teaching in the class.

I am currently a junior infant mainstream class teacher in a DEIS band 2 school in Limerick City. I have taught in both a multigrade setting and as a Special Education Teacher across the classes of junior/senior infants, 1st/2nd class and 5th class. I returned to Mary Immaculate College in 2019 to complete a Master of Arts in STEM Education having undertaken a specialism in mathematics education for my B.Ed where I gained much experience in Scratch and CoderDojo. I am an assistant principal II in my school leading the areas of Numeracy and STEAM and have recently been successful in attaining the Badge of Excellence in STEM awareness for our school. I lead and facilitate Science Week, Engineers Week, Maths Week, ESB Science Blast, the Green Schools Committee and Food Dudes in my school. I run an Instagram page @primaryschoolSTEM which serves as a platform to engage teachers in STEM education as I try to challenge misconceptions surrounding it and also share many different STEM lesson ideas.
