Aspiring Leaders

This course will be of interest to aspiring leaders at all levels. It will introduce participants to four perspectives on the complex field of school leadership. While each of the four segments stands alone and can be taken separately, together they will inform a deeper understanding of leadership in the contemporary primary or post-primary school.

Module Three - The Learning Leader - Monday 17th January @ 7 pm

This course will cover the role and responsibility of the school leader in supporting student, staff and whole school learning. Contributing to learning as an active process of growth and development rather than curriculum delivery will be a key focal point.

Participants in this course will be enabled to …

  • Understand how school leaders make a difference to the quality of teaching and learning
  • Appreciate the importance of modelling, monitoring, relationships, communication and dialogue
  • Situate leadership for learning in the context of school policies, processes and systems

This course will cover the wide range of skills that are often to be seen in successful leaders. This will include managerial, rational, cultural and aesthetic dimensions of leadership in school settings.

  • List the broad range of skills that are necessary to effective leadership
  • Balance tactics and strategy; conflict and consensus; management and vision
  • Learn how to leverage their professional discretion and agency for the good of their school
