Maynooth University Department of Education is introducing an exciting, innovative and flexible Future Leaders Gateway Programme. designed for teachers who are seeking or already in, school leadership roles, as well as for teachers who are seeking to develop leadership skills in their classrooms and schools. The programme is designed specifically in order to build your knowledge, competences, and expertise as you undertake your journey in school leadership.
The Future Leaders Gateway Programme offers a combination of practical skills and theoretical foundations to support preparation for leadership and management positions at all levels. It is designed and delivered by experienced leaders, educators and academics from a variety of professional education roles and has input from national and international academic/practitioner experts in the areas of educational leadership and management.
What makes it unique?
Candidates have 3 options within the Future Leaders Gateway Programme:
MAELM - PGDELM - T-MAELM
- A Master’s programme (Level 9, 90 ECTS) focusing on educational leadership and management.
- Year 1 incorporates the PGDELM, available in a range of regional venues (see below).
- Year 2 is available in Maynooth University and a number of regional venues (TBC).
- Two Full Day Seminars (Sep & March – Maynooth University), Four half-day workshops (Oct-March) in one of 3 regional centres (TBC), interactive on-line lectures and one-to-one meetings with a research supervisor (all face to face events take place on Saturdays).
- Delivered with a blended-learning approach, with workshops, seminars and on-line engagement.
- A Postgraduate diploma (Level 9, 60 ECTS) focusing on educational leadership (the existing Future Leaders diploma).
- Offered in a range of regional venues (as outlined below) and Maynooth University.
- Delivered with a blended-learning approach - lectures, workshops, seminars and access to special
- This “Top-Up” Masters programme is only available to students who are graduates of the PGDELM, subject to availability of places from September 2021 only.
- Graduates of the PGDELM have a four year window from time of graduating in which to undertake this programme.

Leading and Managing Educational Innovation Leadership for Enhancing Cultures of Communication
Participative Research as Leadership Practice The Person and The Professional: Who am I as Leader?
Legal Contexts, Policy and Practice. Coaching and Mentoring in and as Leadership Practice

What qualification will I receive? What are your entry requirements?
The Future Leaders Programme is a nationally and internationally recognized qualification from the National University of Ireland at level 9 (Postgraduate Diploma and Master’s degree) on the National Framework of Qualifications.
What are the fees?
Year 1 (PGDELM and MAELM) - €3,100 plus student levy

A recognised primary degree considered equivalent to Irish university primary degree level. A teaching qualification or equivalentIn the absence of a teaching qualification, proof of current full registration with the Teaching Council showing the years of qualification may be considered. A minimum of 3 years full-time, qualified teaching experience.
How can I apply?
Applications can be made via the Postgraduate Applications Centre (PAC) website www.pac.ie until 20th May 2020 using the PAC code MH40G (PGDELM) and MH45G (MAELM).
Late applications may be considered subject to availability of places.
The T-MAELM (1 year Masters’ top-up option) for existing graduates of the PGDELM will be available from September 2021, subject to availability of places.
Our information sessions/open nights will take place in March across the country as follows:
- Thursday 12th March – Wexford Education Centre (Enniscorthy) – 5.30pm start of presentation (until 7.00pm)
