This is a practical Programme and will give teachers insights and tools to reduce and effectively manage stress, boost their personal wellbeing and provide them with the resources needed to lead an introductory Wellbeing and Mindfulness session for students and teachers in their own schools. Resources include a mini resource manual with a detailed Wellbeing framework, a course outline, a suggested reading list and references and a PowerPoint presentation for the Programme. Participants will also be given a 12 minute relaxation recording they can use personally and with their staff/students.
This Introductory Wellbeing and Mindfulness for Schools and Teachers workshop will give participants key insights about stress, what causes it and how to effectively manage it at a personal level as well as the content, resources and information needed to help others do the same. They will also learn about how the mind works which gives key insights into how to create a life that is productive, happy and meaningful - so they can help students understand the mindset and thinking strategies that will help them reach their potential. Participants will also learn a range of relaxation and meditation practices to help them focus, destress, regulate emotions, slow down, re-energise and feel good.
Mindfulness and Wellbeing for Schools and Teachers
WEEK 1 -Monday November 11th. Stress and Wellbeing - Context of stress, and wellbeing in schools and the modern world and Introduction to personal wellbeing, balance and mindful and relaxation practices (includes introduction to the the three types of stress - and how to reduce and effectively manage them) and Personal Action Plan
WEEK 2 Monday November 18th. The pillars of wellbeing - Physical, mental, emotional, social etc and mindful and relaxation practices
WEEK 3 -Monday November 25th. The power of positive thinking (Includes exercises that show the impact of positive and negative thinking on our physiology) - Discussion about and dealing with real life school stresses - and how we can help reduce each others unhealthy stress (and understand how we may add to it!) ?
WEEK 4 - Monday December 2nd. Bringing it all together - includes Going through the programme, resource manual and Powerpoint presentation.
About the Facilitator
Calodagh McCumiskey will facilitate the sessions. She worked in the high-stress environment of international emergency response and development programming responding to man-made and natural disasters in Africa and Asia for 14 years.
