Autism in the Mainstream Post-Primary Classroom

This course will examine what neurodiversity is with a particular focus on autism. It will look at some of the challenges autistic students may face in a mainstream classroom. It aims to provide practical suggestions for how to support our neurodivergent students and help overcome the barriers to education that a classroom may impose.

Learning Outcomes:

Following participation in this course, participants will:

• be able to identify issues faced by neurodivergent students in post-primary school.
• have a knowledge of how these issues can impact on well-being and education.
• be able to identify strategies to support neurodivergent students in a mainstream classroom.
