Promoting Positive Mental Health in The Classroom 18WX609
This course is based on SPHE in the Primary School with particular emphasis on Strands 1 and 2 Me, Myself and Others, fostering of awareness and understanding thus enabling the child to care for and respect themselves with a sense of personal responsibility for their own actions and behaviours. The course explores and discusses information and guidelines on structuring a positive school climate and atmosphere and the organization and development of specific skills to establish positive learning environments for children to learn in non-threatening situations and also provide teachers with skills to deal with sensitive issues. Integration of all these issues across the spectrum of subjects in the Primary curriculum particularly Literacy, Drama, Art, P.E. and History will also be explored. Receptive and Expressive Language, Comprehension, Listening Skills, Body Awareness & Mindfulness, Visualizations (a deficit in many children with SEN), Self Confidence, Positive Sense of Worth, Feelings, Resilience, Anti-Bullying, Stay Safe and RSE will also be examined.
The course also examines School Self Evaluation in relation to the development of SPHE in participants’ schools.
