Sincere thanks and best wishes to our outgoing Director, Dr. Seán O'Leary who has handed over the reins to our new Director, Lorraine O'Gorman. Seán served as Director of Co. Wexford Education Centre for 4 years.

He was a wonderful Director, innovator and educator who always had a friendly welcome for everyone who visited the Centre. We wish him the very best of luck in his new academic role in UCD.

Outgoing Director of Co. Wexford Education Centre, Dr. Sean O'Leary is interviewed by Fr. Billy Swan for 'The Hook of Faith' on science, faith and education.  See https://www.thehookoffaith.com/single-post/2018/07/20/FAITH-AND-SCIENCE-FRIENDS-OR-FOES

The Health and Safety Authority has developed resources to give farm safety messages to Primary students in 30 minutes. These are available at www.hsa.ie/education under Teacher Supports and Resources.  These include a Farm Safety Presentation-primary: a set of seven PowerPoint slides, specifically developed for use in all Primary classes. Teachers can use them with their whiteboards or print off to photocopy.  On the Farm videos showcase child safety on the  farm from the child’s own perspective. In addition to this, the HSA's dedicated e-learning portal www.hsalearning.ie contains a short interactive course for Primary students called Keep Safe on the Farm (2 x 40 minute online lessons suitable for the whiteboard). A certificate can be downloaded for the class once complete.

A new data protection regulation, GDPR, is coming into force on May 25th 2018. It applies to organisations that are based in the EU.

Co. Wexford Education Centre is sending out an e-mail to schools to outline our approach to maintaining continued contact and to make clear to all Co. Wexford Education Centre service users what their data rights are with respect to knowing:

a) what data Co. Wexford Education Centre collects on its service users;

b) what Co. Wexford Education Centre does with user data; and

c) how to obtain a census of what data Co. Wexford Education Centre holds on you as a service user.

The answers to these questions are straightforward:

a) Co. Wexford Education Centre holds no information on its service users other than that which was given on school contact databases or participant contact forms (name, address, institution, title, e-mail address, participant role etc); that which service users voluntarily put on their Co. Wexford Education Centre website user account; information given to us on Expense Claims (expense details, bank paying-in details, and receipts); e-mails and correspondence; details of financial transactions made, for example course fee payments taken, and grants paid out to individuals or schools.

b) This limited amount of data that Co. Wexford Education Centre holds is only used for the following purposes: for having an up-to-date list of schools, event bookings, attendance rolls, course and project participants; for sending out communications, and staying in touch with schools, tutors and account users; for keeping track of who has paid course fees, when, and how much has been paid; for compliance with the Charity Regulator’s or Department of Education & Skills’ requests for information and legally-binding accounting purposes (e.g. knowing to whom Co. Wexford Education Centre has paid grants and expenses, when, and how much has been paid); e-mail addresses and contacts necessary for administering and carrying out Co. Wexford Education Centre projects and centre business.

c) If any Co. Wexford Education Centre service user would like further clarification on what data are kept on them personally, or, moreover, if any service user would simply like us to delete and dispose of any information we have on them, you can get in touch with the Centre Secretary of Co. Wexford Education Centre at any time using the following e-mail address: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. (please note, that Co. Wexford Education Centre will process such a request within legal parameters within 30 days).

Finally, please note that payments received as part of course fees are handled by third party banking websites, so we do not have any members’ PayPal/credit/debit card details; nor does Co. Wexford Education Centre analyse the cookie information that may be gathered on our website, nor do we sell any information on, nor do we give any information we have to third parties unless legally obliged to do so or unless the Education Centre network has a working relationship with relevant organisations for the provision of courses and projects. For specific courses or projects operated in collaboration with relevant organisations, such as support services, the Health & Safety Authority or Arts organisations, the collaborative partner is identifiable at the outset. Co. Wexford Education Centre protects the devices such data are stored upon, and is obligated to report to its service users any data breaches perpetrated.

Ratified by the Management Committee of Co. Wexford Education Centre on 23rd May 2018.

Co. Wexford Education Centre will hold its AGM on Monday 14th May at 5 pm.

This ready to use resource is designed to raise awareness amongst younger children of the dangers of household chemicals. Under the Sink is a short, clear, online presentation, designed for use on classroom whiteboards and comes with useful teacher guidelines, including a lesson plan and suggestions for follow up cross-curricular activities. While the resource is most closely linked to the SPHE curriculum objectives for First and Second classes, with a little adaption, it links with curriculum objectives at other class levels and can also be used by teachers of Infant or Senior classes as an awareness-raising tool. This resource is also available as Gaeilge.
