Global Schoolroom is a registered Irish charity, founded in 2006 by Dublin teachers, Gwen Brennan and Garret Campbell and their friend, Robert Power.
Global Schoolroom provides teacher training in India using volunteer teachers from Ireland ,both serving and retired. Global Schoolroom’s mission is to promote the sharing of educational experience between communities worldwide.
Global Schoolroom is supported by all major groups involved in education in Ireland including the three teacher unions, the JMB, ETBI and is part funded by the unions, Cornmarket Group Financial Services, Friends First, Irish Life and New Ireland Assurance.
The three year diploma delivered by Global Schoolroom is accredited by UCD and Assam Don Bosco University, Guwahati, India, and is targeted at untrained teachers working within the Indian school system in the regions of Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura. So far close to 200 Irish teachers have volunteered for the programme, delivering training to more than one thousand Indian teachers, of whom almost 400 have been awarded diplomas.
Each autumn Global Schoolroom set out to recruit Irish primary and second level teachers who, after intensive preparation and training, will act as tutors and facilitators for the programme.
